The Kiswa Factory
The Kiswa Factory is where the Ka’bah’s covering, known as the Kiswa, is made. The Kiswa is an exquisite black silk cloth, embroidered with verses from the Quran in gold thread. The factory was established in 1346H (1928) by King Abdulaziz Al Saud and has been producing the Kiswa annually ever since. The factory is a symbol of the deep respect and care that the Saudi leadership and people have for the Ka’bah. The production of the Kiswa is a highly skilled process, combining traditional hand-weaving techniques with modern technology.
