Product Description
Masjid-e-Nabwi is the mosque established by the Prophet Muhammad (Peace and blessings be upon him) upon his migration to Madinah. It is the second most revered mosque in Islam and the second largest in the world after Masjid al-Haram in Makkah.
When the Prophet (Peace and blessings be upon him) migrated to Madinah (then called Yathrib), the city’s leaders and his followers escorted him, hoping he would stop at their homes. The Prophet (Peace and blessings be upon him) politely responded that his camel was divinely guided, and wherever it stopped would be his residence. The camel eventually stopped at the site of the present mosque, and the Prophet (Peace and blessings be upon him) inquired who owned the land. It belonged to two orphan brothers, Sahl and Suhail. The Prophet (Peace and blessings be upon him) purchased the land, cleared it, and ordered the construction of a mosque.
The mosque was built using bricks of stone and kneaded clay, with palm trees cut down and used as pillars to support the roof made of palm branches. A shaded area called as-Suffah was constructed at the mosque’s rear for the poor companions to spend the night. Two small huts were also built on the eastern side to accommodate the Prophet’s (Peace and blessings be upon him) wives, Aisha and Sauda (May Allah be pleased with them).
The mosque was extended twice during the Prophet’s (Peace and blessings be upon him) lifetime. The first extension was shortly after the Hijra, with the mosque measuring approximately 35 x 30 meters. Seven years later, after the conquest of Khaybar, the mosque was enlarged to 50 x 50 meters. When the Qibla was changed to Makkah in 624 CE, the entire mosque was reoriented to the south.
The mosque also served as a religious school, community center, court, and place of confinement for prisoners. The Prophet (Peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Whoever performs forty prayers in my mosque, not missing a single prayer, will be granted exemption from Hellfire and punishment and will remain free from hypocrisy.” [Ahmad]
Abu Huraira (May Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (Peace and blessings be upon him) said: “One prayer in my mosque is superior to a thousand prayers offered in other mosques, except Masjid al-Haram.” [Bukhari]
