Hijazi Dialect
The Hijazi dialect, spoken in urban centers like Makkah, Madinah, Jeddah, Yanbu, and Ta’if, is known for its simplicity and flexibility. It is closely related to Classical Arabic (Al-Fusha) and has been influenced by the various cultures that have interacted with Makkah over the centuries, including Turkish during the Ottoman rule. The dialect retains many words and expressions from Classical Arabic, making it one of the closest dialects to the original language of the Quran. The Hijazi dialect is also rich in proverbs and sayings, many of which are preserved by the older generation. Despite changes over time, the Hijazi dialect remains a vibrant and integral part of the cultural identity of the people of Makkah.
