Masjid Ghamama
Masjid Ghamama, located about 300 meters southwest of Masjid-e-Nabwi, is known as the site where the Prophet (Peace and blessings be upon him) performed the Eid prayer during the last years of his life. It is also referred to as Masjid Eid.
The Prophet (Peace and blessings be upon him) is reported to have performed the Eid prayer here during the last four years of his life. It is also where he performed Salatul Istisqa (a special prayer for rain). The word Ghamama means clouds, which appeared and brought rain after the Prophet (Peace and blessings be upon him) performed the prayer.
Additionally, this location is where the Prophet (Peace and blessings be upon him) performed the Janazah (funeral) prayer for Najashi, the Emperor of Aksum in Abyssinia (Ethiopia). Although Najashi was a Christian, he welcomed Muslim emigrants to his country, later accepted Islam, and when he passed away, the Prophet (Peace and blessings be upon him) prayed for him in his absence.
