House of Abdullah bin Umar
This window in the Qibla wall directly opposite the Rawdah Mubarak marks the location of the house of Abdullah bin Umar (May Allah be pleased with him), the son of the second Caliph Umar bin Khattab (May Allah be pleased with him) and a prominent authority in hadith and law. Abdullah bin Umar (May Allah be pleased with him) was meticulous in following the Sunnah, emulating the Prophet’s (Peace and blessings be upon him) actions precisely.
His house was just east of the Mehrab of Masjid-e-Nabwi, and Bilal (May Allah be pleased with him) used to call Adhan (the call to prayer) while standing on a pillar of this house. When all the houses on the south side of Masjid-e-Nabwi were removed, walls of baked bricks were built to enclose the land of this house, with a door installed. An underground tunnel was later dug to provide access to the mosque for the family of Umar (May Allah be pleased with him).
